'The Crown & the Cradle': a Zoom talk by Siobhan Clarke, of Historic Royal Palaces
In July 2013, the Duchess of Cambridge was delivered of a son: the latest in a line of royal babies, stretching back centuries. Expectations have always been high when it comes to the line of succession. The health and survival of the child would shape history, yet these important infants have arrived under a wide variety of circumstances. A few became the casualties of political conflict, groomed for a kingship they never enjoyed, while others rose to take their place. This lecture explores the historical significance of some of these royal babies, from the Wars of the Roses to the present day.
